The Americans boast a record 31 Davis Cup titles.

Portland, OR - The 2007 Davis Cup champion will be crowned this weekend in Portland, where the Andy Roddick-led United States will play host to defending champion Russia, which features world No. 4 star Nikolay Davydenko.

Last week, U.S. captain Patrick McEnroe selected the former world No. 1 Roddick, James Blake and the twin Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, for his squad, while Russian captain Shamil Tarpischev decided to counter with the likes of Davydenko, Igor Andreev, Mikhail Youzhny and Dmitry Tursunov. Struggling former world No. 1 Marat Safin was left off Team Russia.

The best-of-five tie will be staged on a fast hardcourt at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum. The draw will be held on Thursday, while the matches will be staged from Friday through Sunday.

This will mark the first Davis Cup final on American soil in 15 years. The U.S. topped Switzerland in the 1992 finale in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Americans boast a record 31 Davis Cup titles in 60 finals, but haven’t won the championship since 1995, when Pete Sampras led them to a 3-2 victory over Russia in a dramatic final in Moscow.

The Russians beat Argentina in last year’s finale, in Moscow, and captured the first of their two Davis Cup titles in 2002.

The U.S. is 2-1 all-time versus Russia, which beat the Americans 3-2 in last year’s semifinals, in Moscow. Team USA bested the Russians 3-2 in an opening- round affair on home turf in Atlanta back in 1998.
