Cubs bring back Ward; let Floyd, Trachsel walk

Chicago, ILÂ - The Chicago Cubs and infielder/outfielder Daryle Ward both exercised a mutual option for the 2008 season on Saturday. Also on Saturday, the Cubs declined club options on outfielder Cliff Floyd and pitcher Steve Trachsel.
Ward, who signed with Chicago prior to last season, hit .327 with 19 RBI in 79 games for the Cubs. As a pinch-hitter, the 32-year-old hit .268 (11-of-41).
Floyd hit .284 with nine home runs and 45 RBI in 108 games for Chicago, while Trachsel went 7-11 with a 4.90 earned run average in a combined 29 starts with the Cubs and Orioles.
Chicago also added pitcher Adam Harben to the 40-man roster. The 24-year-old right-hander was acquired from Minnesota in 2005.
