After Rod Brind’Amour flicked a wrister under the glove of Smith, Jussi Jokinen had to score to keep the game alive, but he stopped in front of the net and shot the puck off the left post. Wade Brookbank and Brind’Amour each had a goal in regulation while Ward made 26 saves for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game skid. Martin St. Louis and Lecavalier each had a goal while Smith made 28 saves for the Lightning, who have lost four straight and six of seven overall.
