Fountain of Youth: Ponce de Leon KO’s Bautista

Carson, CA - Daniel Ponce de Leon made quick work of Rey Bautista, knocking out the previously unbeaten contender at the 2:30 mark of the first round to retain his WBO Super Bantamweight title.
With less than minute in the opening round, Ponce de Leon (35-5) hit Bautista with a right-left combination that sent him into the ropes. Bautista (23-1) momentarily regained his footing, but Ponce de Leon quickly ended the fight with a left that sent Bautista to the mat.
An upset occured in the other main event, as Gerry Penalosa knocked out Jhonny Gonzalez in the seventh round with a body shot to capture the WBO Bantamweight title.
With 15 seconds left in the seventh round, Penalosa (52-6-2) landed a left jab to Gonzalez’s rib section. The defending champion Gonzalez (34-6) took a step back and then fell to the ground as he winced in pain.
