Indians acquire Carroll from Rockies

Cleveland, OHÂ - Infielder Jamey Carroll was traded from the Colorado Rockies to the Cleveland Indians on Saturday for a player to be named. The 33-year-old Carroll hit .225 with a pair of homers and 22 RBI over 108 games for the National League champion Rockies last season. He played 60 games at second base, 35 at third, and 11 at shortstop.
Carroll, who is due $2.15 million in 2008, owns a career batting average of .272 with nine homers and 112 RBI in 580 games over six seasons with Montreal/Washington and Colorado.
Reports indicate that the Rockies will now shift their focus to free agent Tadahito Iguchi.
To make room for Carroll on the 40-man roster, the Indians designated right- hander J.D. Martin for assignment.
