Wings score 3 PP goals, beat Oilers 4-3 (AP)
The Detroit Red Wings pushed aside the Edmonton Oilers with another dominant power-play performance. Jiri Hudler scored two goals, the second on a power play, and Chris Osgood made 30 saves in Detroit’s 4-3 victory over Edmonton on Thursday night. Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Kopecky added power-play goals for Detroit, 6-0-1 in its last seven and 13-2-3 overall.
Canucks improve to 6-0-2 in last 8 games (AP)
Two players made triumphant returns and the Vancouver Canucks picked up two more points. Daniel Sedin scored the winner midway through the third period in the Canucks’ 3-2 victory over the Minnesota on Thursday night. Steve Bernier and former Wild wing Pavol Demitra also scored to help Vancouver beat Minnesota for the second time this season.
Penguins notch seventh win in 8 games (AP)
It’s too early in the season for coach Michel Therrien to worry about the slow progress of Pittsburgh’s power play on the road. The Penguins have been among the NHL’s best in scoring on the power play at home, but maybe two goals in Atlanta will get the unit producing away from Mellon Arena. “Every game is a close game, and that’s the way the game is supposed to be played,” Therrien said.

Ducks D Beauchemin has knee surgery (AP)
Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He is expected to be sidelined about six months. Beauchemin was injured during a 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville on Nov. 14. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve.
Flames’ Kiprusoff beats Avalanche 1-0 (AP)
Miikka Kiprusoff and the Calgary Flames are having a lot of fun at the Colorado Avalanche’s expense. Kiprusoff made 18 saves for his second shutout of the season, and Daymond Langkow scored his fifth goal in Calgary’s 1-0 victory over Colorado on Thursday night. The Flames started the month with five losses in their first eight games, including a 6-1 setback in San Jose on Nov.
Versteeg, Khabibulin help Chicago to win (AP)
Chicago coach Joel Quenneville liked the way the Blackhawks finished a lot more than the way they started.
