However, during the contest, reports surfaced that Mavs veteran Devean George, one of the players involved in the trade, blocked the deal from a provision in his one-year contract. The Nets were also to get center DeSagana Diop, swingmen Jerry Stackhouse and George, guard Maurice Ager, and a pair of No. 1 draft picks for 2008 and 2010. The Mavericks were to obtain Wright and Allen to make the salaries add up. Before the match-up, reports surfaced that Mavericks forward Devean George blocked the deal due to a provision in his one-year contract. George and DeSagana Diop, both part of the reported deal, were active for the Mavs. The trade was set up to send Kidd to the Mavericks for a package of players that included guard Devin Harris. Final Score: Houston 89, Sacramento 87
Houston, TX - Yao Ming poured in 25 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and swatted three shots, and the Houston Rockets overcame a mere 10- point fourth quarter output to survive a late Sacramento surge, topping the Kings, 89-87, thanks to a three-pointer with just seconds remaining. With time winding down and Sacramento on top, 87-86, Houston had one last chance, taking possession with 24.1 seconds on the clock. Tracy McGrady was harassed by Ron Artest to the point of losing his handle on the ball. McGrady was able to regain control, though, and proceeded to drive the lane, where he was met by triple coverage. Recognizing the extra defenders collapsing into the paint, McGrady kicked the ball out to a wide-open Steve Novak at the top of the key. Novak drained the bucket from beyond the arc, his only successful field goal of the affair, and the Rockets pushed ahead, 89-87, with 2.5 seconds left. The Kings used a timeout to advance the ball downcourt, but Brad Miller’s desperation three-pointer as time expired was well off-target. Rafer Alston accumulated 23 points and dished out seven assists for the Rockets, who are riding an eight-game win streak into the All-Star break. Houston has not lost since a 97-89 setback to the Utah Jazz on Jan. 27 at the Toyota Center. Shane Battier added 15 points, and McGrady finished with six rebounds, five assists and just 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting from the field. Artest was a one-man wrecking crew for Sacramento, piling on 30 points and outscoring the entire Rockets team in the final frame, 15-10. Despite his effort, though, the Kings dropped their third consecutive contest. Mike Bibby recorded 14 points, Miller donated 13 and Kevin Martin chipped in with 12. Sacramento has gone down in three of its last four outings at Houston.
