Boston, MAÂ - Andrew Ladd’s pair of goals helped Carolina withstand a late Bruins charge for a 3-2 win over Boston at TD Bank north Garden. Sergei Samsonov had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who have won two of three overall and all three meetings with Boston this season. Rod Brind’Amour added a pair of helpers, and Cam Ward stopped 32 shots to record his 23rd win of the year. Shawn Thornton had the first two-goal game of his career for the Bruins, who have lost four of five. Alex Auld made only 20 stops in defeat.

Uniondale, NYÂ - Trent Hunter had a goal and two assists, as the New York Islanders got back into the win column with a 4-3 decision over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers at Nassau Coliseum. Ruslan Fedotenko added a goal and a helper against his former team and Rick DiPietro made 26 stops for the Islanders, who halted a seven-game losing streak. Danny Briere snapped out of a funk to get back in the scoring column for Philadelphia, which has now lost four in a row. He and Joffrey Lupul finished with a goal and an assist, while Antero Niittymaki made 43 saves in net.

Tampa, FLÂ - Vinny Prospal had a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the third period, as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2, at St. Pete Times Forum. Michel Ouellet also lit the lamp while Karri Ramo stopped 19 shots in the win for the Lightning, who have won three of their last four contests. Chris Higgins and Tomas Plekanec both had a goal while Cristobal Huet gave up three goals on 36 shots for the Canadiens, who have dropped three straight and four of five overall.

Ottawa, ONÂ - Thomas Vanek recorded his first career hat trick, as Buffalo used a four-goal third period to top Ottawa, 5-1, at Scotiabank Place. Clarke MacArthur and Jason Pominville picked up a goal and one assist each for the Sabres, who are 7-0-2 in their last nine games and outshot the Northeast Division leaders 39-26, including a 27-11 margin through two periods. Ryan Miller stopped 25-of-26 shots for his fourth win in the last five starts. Randy Robitaille hit the net for the Senators, whose two- game win streak ended. Ottawa has dropped four of its last six games, yet still remains atop the Eastern Conference with 72 points, three ahead of idle Pittsburgh. Ray Emery allowed all five goals on 39 shots in the loss.

Nashville, TNÂ - Alexander Radulov scored twice and Chris Mason was stellar with 40 saves, as the Nashville Predators hurried to an early three-goal lead and eventually held on for a 4-2 victory over Detroit at Sommet Center. Martin Erat and J.P. Dumont also scored for Nashville, which has won two straight and earned at least a point for the sixth time in its last seven games overall (5-1-1). Jason Arnott posted two assists in the win. Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk scored for the Red Wings, who are now winless in their last four games (0-3-1). Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood lasted less than nine minutes into the first period after he allowed three goals on four shots. Jimmy Howard finished with 18 saves in relief.

St. Louis, MOÂ - David Backes and Martin Rucinsky had a goal and an assist each to guide the St. Louis Blues past the road-weary Los Angeles Kings, 4-2, at Scottrade Center. Andy McDonald and Jay McKee also scored while Manny Legace made 25 stops for the Blues, who had dropped four straight and 11 of 13 coming in. Dustin Brown and Alexander Frolov lit the lamp for Los Angeles, which finished its eight-game road swing with a respectable 4-3-1 record. Jason LaBarbera made 30 saves in defeat.

Edmonton, ABÂ - Kyle Brodziak scored two third-period goals to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild at Rexall Place. Fernando Pisani and Jarret Stoll also scored for the Oilers, who have won three of their last four games. Mathieu Garon made 38 saves for Edmonton, which will begin a four-game road trip in San Jose on Thursday. Pavol Demitra and Brian Rolston scored for the Wild, who saw their brief two-game win streak halted. Minnesota goaltender Niklas Backstrom was pulled after the second period. Backstrom allowed two goals on 11 shots and Josh Harding made 10 saves in relief. Earlier Tuesday, the Oilers learned that defenseman Sheldon Souray will miss the remainder of the season after he underwent surgery on his left shoulder last week.

Denver, COÂ - Teemu Selanne scored his first goal since his return, helping the resurgent Anaheim Ducks edge the Colorado Avalanche, 2-1, at the Pepsi Center. Samuel Pahlsson netted the eventual game-winner and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 32 saves for the Ducks. Selanne returned to the ice on February 5 after missing the first 56 games while pondering retirement.

San Jose, CAÂ - Dion Phaneuf tied the score inside the final minute of regulation and Jarome Iginla tallied the game-winner 4:35 into overtime, as the Calgary Flames rallied for a 4-3 victory over San Jose at the Shark Tank. Daymond Langkow and Mark Smith also scored for Calgary, which has won three of its last four games and moved into sole possession of second place in the Northwest Division. Miika Kiprusoff made 40 saves for the Flames, who now trail the Minnesota Wild by two points. Patrick Rissmiller, Marcel Goc and Milan Michalek scored for the Sharks, who are 3-1-1 on their current six-game homestand which concludes on Thursday versus Edmonton. Evgeni Nabokov allowed four goals on 18 shots in the loss.
