Montreal, QC - Alex Kovalev and Mark Streit each had a goal and an assist as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the New York Islanders, 4-1, at Bell Centre. Tomas Plekanec and Mathieu Dandenault also tallied, while Andrei Markov added a pair of assists for Montreal, which has won four of its last five contests. Cristobal Huet stopped 29-of-30 shots for the Canadiens. Blake Comeau accounted for the lone Islanders goal. New York has lost four straight and seven of its last nine. Rick DiPietro made 28 saves for the Islanders.

San Jose, CA - Jeremy Roenick scored in the fifth round of the shootout to lift San Jose over Chicago, 3-2, at HP Pavilion. Roenick broke from the neutral zone and skated wide right, before closing in on Nikolai Khabibulin and beating the netminder clean on a wrist shot that rang just inside the left post. Evgeni Nabokov then gloved a shot by Cam Barker to seal the win for the Sharks, who kicked off a six-game homestand, their longest of the season. Jonathan Cheechoo and Marc- Edouard Vlasic scored in regulation, and Nabokov ended with 19 saves for San Jose, which has won four of its last five games. Joe Thornton and Craig Rivet each added a pair of assists. Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith scored for Chicago, which continued a seven-game road swing after dropping the first test Wednesday at Colorado. Khabibulin, who ended with 38 saves, has failed to win a game since December 26.

Boston, MA - Pavel Datsyuk scored the go-ahead goal after setting up Detroit’s first score, and the Red Wings came back to down the Boston Bruins, 3-1. Henrik Zetterberg also had a goal and an assist for the streaking Red Wings, who have won seven straight. Brian Rafalski also scored for Detroit, and Chris Osgood stopped 22-of-23 shots on the night. Chuck Kobasew scored the lone goal for Boston, with assists by Glen Metropolit and Milan Lucic. Tim Thomas let in the three scores on 32 shots for the Bruins, who had won three in a row and five of six entering play.

Toronto, ON - Jason Blake had a goal and assist, as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat division-rival Ottawa, 4-2, at Air Canada Centre. Toronto came into Saturday’s game the last-place team in the Northeast Division, with 49 points. Ottawa was at the top, with 68 points, and had won three of four against the Leafs this season. But Toronto won its second in a row against Ottawa, as Carlo Colaiacovo, Jiri Tlusty, and Dominic Moore all found the back of the net. Vesa Toskala made 19 saves for the Maple Leafs, who additionally snapped a three-game losing streak. Nick Foligno and Christopher Neil both scored for Ottawa, which has lost two in a row. Ray Emery allowed all four goals on 26 shots, and Randy Robitaille had two assists.

Newark, NJ - Colin White scored his first goal in nearly two years and also added an assist as the Devils blistered the Kings, 6-3, at the Prudential Center. It was the Kings’ first trip to New Jersey in four years, as they had not visited since a 3-2 overtime loss on February 15, 2004. David Clarkson, Travis Zajac and Sergei Brylin each added a goal and an assist for New Jersey, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Patrick Elias and Karel Rachunek also tallied, John Madden had a pair of assists and Martin Brodeur made 23 saves in the victory. Brian Boyle, Jack Johnson and Lubomir Visnovsky lit the lamp for the Kings, who have dropped two of three and three of their last five games overall. Jason LaBarbera allowed just five goals on 24 shots over two periods, while Jean-Sebastien Aubin made two saves the rest of the way.

Philadelphia, PA - Mike Knuble registered the first hat trick of his career, and Martin Biron made 27 saves to record his third shutout of the season and 21st of his career, as the Philadelphia Flyers blanked the Anaheim Ducks, 3-0, at the Wachovia Center. The Flyers closed out their season-high six-game homestand with a 4-2-0 mark, and blanked the Ducks for the first time since a 1-0 victory in Anaheim on January 3, 2003. Jonas Hiller allowed three goals on 25 shots for the Ducks, who have been shutout in back-to-back contests. St. Louis defeated Anaheim 1-0 in a shootout on Friday. The Ducks fell to 0-3-1 on their season-high nine-game road swing and have lost a season-high six straight overall. The club has scored only five goals during the slide.

Washington, DC - Kari Lehtonen made 36 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Atlanta Thrashers downed the Washington Capitals, 2-0, at Verizon Center. Todd White and Marian Hossa each scored a goal for the Thrashers, who have won their last three games. Atlanta played its second game without star forward Ilya Kovalchuk, who sat out the game with a right knee injury. Kovalchuk, who leads Atlanta with 38 goals and 64 points this year, is expected to return to play early next week. Olaf Kolzig stopped 11- of-12 shots in the loss for the Capitals, who have dropped three of their last five games.

Columbus, OH - Marian Gaborik’s pair of second-period goals helped Minnesota top Columbus, 4-1, at Nationwide Arena. Brian Rolston and Kurtis Foster also scored for the Wild, who have won four of their last five. Pavol Demitra added two assists and Niklas Backstrom picked up the win by making 33 saves. Derick Brassard provided the lone offense for the Blue Jackets, who have lost three in a row. Fredrik Norrena stopped just 16 shots in defeat.

Pittsburgh, PA - Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists as the Pittbrugh Penguins used a four-goal third period to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-1, at Mellon Arena. Petr Sykora had a goal and an assist while Ty Conklin stopped 27 shots for the Penguins, who have won two of their last three and remain one point behind the Philadelphia Flyers for first place in the Atlantic Division. Sergei Samsonov scored the lone goal while Cam Ward stopped 25 shots for the Hurricanes, who had won four of five coming into the game.

Tampa, FL - Richard Zednik’s goal with just over a minute remaining in the third period capped off a late rally as the Florida Panthers scored a pair of goals in the final six minutes to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2, at the St. Pete Times Forum. Tomas Vokoun made 44 saves for the Panthers, who have now won two in a row. Jay Bouwmeester added a goal and an assist for Florida, and Olli Jokinen added his 25th tally of the season in the win. Chris Gratton and Vaclav Prospal each lit the lamp for the Lightning, who have lost three out of four. Karri Ramo made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Nashville, TN - Alexander Radulov’s tally with 50 seconds left in overtime propelled the Nashville Predators, who blew a two-goal lead, to a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes at the Sommet Center. In the extra session, Ilya Bryzgalov stopped Radek Bonk’s shot from the top of the right circle with the blocker, but the puck caromed off the shoulder of Radulov, banked off the goaltender’s helmet and trickled across the goal line. Martin Erat posted a goal and an assist for the Predators, who have won two straight and five of seven overall. David Legwand also tallied, while Dan Ellis stopped 35-of-37 shots to earn his 12th win of the season. Shane Doan and Steve Reinprecht scored for the Coyotes, who have dropped two straight. Bryzgalov allowed three goals on 37 shots in defeat.

St. Louis, MO - T.J. Hensick and Ben Guite each notched a pair of goals as the Colorado Avalanche picked up a wild 6-4 road win over the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center. Tyler Arnason tallied a goal and an assist for the Avs, who won for just the second time in their last five games. Jaroslav Hlinka also lit the lamp for Colorado, while Wojtek Wolski had a pair of helpers. Peter Budaj made 28 saves for Colorado in the win. Paul Kariya, Andy McDonald, Dan Hinote and Keith Tkachuk all scored goals for the Blues, who had their two-game winning streak snapped and who have lost eight of their last 10 outings. Brad Boyes and David Backes each contributed a pair of assists, but All-Star goalie Manny Legace allowed five goals on just 23 shots.

Calgary, AB - Niklas Hagman’s early-third-period goal was the difference, as Dallas clipped Calgary, 2-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome. Brenden Morrow also scored for the Stars, who have taken three straight games and moved back into first place in the Pacific Division. San Jose had tied Dallas earlier Saturday with a 3-2 shootout win over Chicago. Marty Turco made 31 saves to record his 22nd win of the season. Daymond Langkow lit the lamp for the Flames, whose four-game win streak ended. Miikka Kiprusoff took the loss despite a 22-save effort.
