Phillies re-sign Romero

In 51 games with the Phillies, J.C. Romero had a 1.24 ERA and held opponents to a .130 batting average.
Philadelphia, PAÂ - The Philadelphia Phillies signed pitcher J.C. Romero to a three-year contract extension with a club option for the fourth year, the team announced on Saturday.
The deal is worth $12 million and if the fourth year option is picked up the total value will be $16.75 million.
Romero, 30, posted a 2-2 record with one save and a 1.92 earned run average in 74 games between the Phillies and Boston last season.
He began the season with Boston and appeared in 23 games before being released on June 18. He signed a minor league contract with the Phillies on June 23 and made his debut with the team on June 29 against the Mets.
“J.C. had an outstanding three months for us this year, particularly down the stretch,” said assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. “He was an integral part of our winning the NL East and we’re very happy we could get him signed before he hit the open market.”
