Columbia, MO  - Missouri guard Stefhon Hannah will miss the next four to six weeks after suffering a broken jaw in an altercation outside of a Columbia night club.

The senior was taken to University Hospital and underwent what the school described as successful surgery.

“He comes out of the bar, sees a disturbance, gets caught up in the middle of it, and — and these are his words — as he was backing out of it, he was hit in the head with an unknown object by an unknown person,” Columbia police Sgt. Don Hawkins told the Columbia Tribune.

Hannah, the team’s leading scorer, had just returned to Columbia after Missouri’s 66-62 win over Colorado Saturday afternoon in Boulder. He netted 13 points and dished out five assists in the game as the Tigers improved to 12-8 on the season.

“What we know at this point in time is that Stefhon was injured in an altercation outside of the Athena night club and restaurant and suffered a fractured jaw,” Missouri head coach Mike Anderson said in a statement released by the school. “After speaking with Stefhon and folks from the hospital, we have the understanding that the surgery was a success and for that, we are grateful.

“While our primary concern in this case is Stefhon’s well-being, we will go through the process of gathering facts surrounding this incident and we will proceed appropriately.”
