(Tuesday, February 12th) Final Score: (5) North Carolina 75, Virginia 74

Charlottesville, VA  - Tyler Hansbrough scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lift fifth-ranked North Carolina to a 75-74 victory over Virginia. Wayne Ellington tallied 19 points and Deon Thompson scored 12 for the Tar Heels (23-2, 8-2 ACC), who again played without point guard Ty Lawson due to a sprained ankle. Marcus Ginyard, who sprained his right ankle in a 103-93 double-overtime win over Clemson on Sunday, started and had seven points for the Tar Heels, winners in five of their last six contests. Sean Singletary scored 27 points and had seven assists for the Cavaliers (11-12, 1-9), who have lost 10 of their last 11 games. Calvin Baker had 10 points. Virginia’s seven game losing streak is the longest since 2002-03.

Milwaukee, WI - Mike Green scored 24 points, 10 of which came in overtime, pulled down 13 rebounds and doled out eight assists to lead the ninth-ranked Butler Bulldogs past the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, 83-75. Willie Veasley and Pete Campbell contributed 12 points apiece for Butler (22-2, 11-2 Horizon League), which has rattled off six wins in a row. A.J. Graves added 11 points. Marcus Skinner poured in a game-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Panthers (12-11, 7-6), who have dropped three contests in a row. Allan Hanson gave 18 points and Paige Paulsen provided 11. Ricky Franklin had five points, six boards and five assists in defeat.

West Lafayette, IN - Robbie Hummel poured in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as 19th-ranked Purdue held on for a 60-54 win over 10th- ranked Michigan State in a Big Ten battle. E’Twaun Moore added 12 points while Keaton Grant donated 11 points in the win for the Boilermakers (20-5, 11-1), who have won 10 straight. Kalin Lucas had 20 points and Raymar Morgan added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Spartans (20-4, 8-3), who have dropped two of their last three games.

Pittsburgh, PA  - Sam Young poured in 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds during the 22nd-ranked Pittsburgh Panthers’ rout of the Providence Friars, 82-63, in Big East action at the Petersen Events Center. DeJuan Blair tallied 15 points for the Panthers (19-5, 7-4 Big East), who have triumphed in three of their last four outings. Ronald Ramon also added 15 points, shooting an impressive 5-for-7 from three-point range, and handed out a game-high six assists, helping Pitt improve to 14-1 as the host. Ramon’s three-point shooting performance came on the heels of his buzzer-beater from beyond the arc, as the Panthers squeaked past West Virginia, 55-54, on Thursday. Marshon Brooks paced the Friars (13-11, 4-8) with 15 points. Jeff Xavier provided 14 points in the losing effort, as Providence dropped its sixth contest out of the last seven played. Randall Hanke chipped in with 10 points, not nearly enough to avoid the Friars slipping to 1-7 on the road. Providence has not defeated Pittsburgh since Jan. 23, 2001, when it earned a 77-61 victory at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The Friars have been downed in eight consecutive meetings against the Panthers.

Rosemont, IL  - Terrence Williams matched a season-high with 22 points and David Padgett eclipsed his season-best with 20 as No. 23 Louisville routed DePaul, 88-68, at the Allstate Arena. Juan Palacios, Edgar Sosa and Preston Knowles added nine points each off the bench for the Cardinals (19-6, 9-3 Big East), who have won 10 of 12. Dar Tucker scored 22 points and Will Walker 15 for the Blue Demons (10-14,5-7), who have lost five of six. Draelon Burns added 11 points and Mac Koshwal pulled down 15 rebounds to go along with eight points for DePaul.

Final Score: (24) Vanderbilt 93, Kentucky 52

Nashville, TN  - Shan Foster scored 20 points and A.J. Ogilvy added 19 points and 12 rebounds, as 24th-ranked Vanderbilt held Kentucky to 11 first-half points, on the way to a 93-52 rout of the Wildcats. Ross Neltner tallied 15 points and eight rebounds for the Commodores (21-4,6-4 SEC), who gained their biggest margin of victory in the all-time series with Kentucky. Vanderbilt, which shot 55.4 percent from the field, while holding Kentucky to 32.7 percent, has won four in a row. The Commodores also got revenge for a 79-73 double-overtime loss at Kentucky on January 12. Ramel Bradley had 21 points for Kentucky (12-10, 6-3), which shot a woeful 3-of-15 in the first half. Joe Crawford chipped in 11 points and Patrick Patterson 10 for the Wildcats, who had a four-game winning streak snapped and suffered its worst loss in SEC history. It was the worst loss for the Wildcats since a 150-95 drubbing by Kansas on December 9, 1989 in Lawrence. This was also tied for the fifth-largest margin of defeat in the storied history of Kentucky basketball, equaling the 52-11 defeat to Rose Polytechnic on February 10, 1910.
